CONTACT LENS AFTER CARE REQUIREMENTS
No one can have failed to hear
of people complaining about their Contact Lenses.
For every patient who has a problem, there are
millions who don't. Assuming at least regular
Annual Checks are attended, conducted by an experienced
well-equipped Contact Lens expert, Contacts are
considered by ALL Professional Opinion to be as
safe as glasses and certainly safer than Eye Surgery.
CONTACT LENSES,
WHETHER CONVENTIONAL WEAR OR DAILY DISPOSABLES,
CAN CAUSE EYE DAMAGE EVEN WITHOUT THERE BEING
ANY SIGN OF DISCOMFORT TO THE WEARER - THIS IS
WHY YOU CANNOT NEGLECT ANNUAL AFTER CARE!
Since I established my unique
SPECIALIST practice in 1973 I have continually
emphasised the VITAL importance of ongoing Annual
After Care Checks which were, and sometimes still
are, neglected and of much underrated importance.
Today our practice flourishes because of its reputation
for our After Care Service even though this is
not profitable compared to fitting new contacts
or selling glasses!
With the dramatic increase in
Contact Lens wear we, like all other Opticians,
are ethically and legally bound to enforce proper
standards of care and welfare for our patients.
We do still however unfortunately encounter some
for whom the proper care levels seem to have been
forgotten or even totally ignored.
A Contact Lens Prescription is
only considered valid for ONE YEAR unless checked
within that time. Our Professional Bodies &
Statutory Authorities (responsible for your welfare
and not our income) insist that, for your safety,
a Full Sight Test & Eye Examination should
be conducted at least once every 2 Years even
if you wear Contact Lenses all the time. Many
people fail to appreciate that these routines
are very different!
A Contact Lens Check is exactly
what it says - a check of the lens performance
as well as the condition of the front surface
of the eye on which the Contact Lens sits. The
full Eye Examination is totally different. It
consists of an Eye Test for a glasses prescription
(different completely to the Contact Lens Prescription),
an Internal Eye Examination, Field Screening and
Internal Pressure Measurements which can detect
abnormalities which could damage the sight or
indicate many serious potential General Health
problems.
Our responsibility for your Ocular
Health & Sight means we must conduct proper
After Care Checks and Sight Tests at the required
intervals in order to comply with the currently
advocated standards. PLEASE DO NOT
TAKE YOUR SIGHT FOR GRANTED -
ATTEND FOR REGULAR CHECKS AS REQUIRED.
