THE RIGHT DIET CAN SAVE SIGHT!
DRY EYES, ARMD & EYE DISEASES, CONJUNCTIVITIS, BLEPHARITIS.

Many less serious conditions such as Dry Eyes, Blepharitis (problems with glands in the lid margins), Conjunctivitis (infections or allergies of the eyelids) can be helped greatly by taking supplements.
DRY EYES - probably the biggest single problem we encounter with Contact Lens wearers on an every day basis is dry eyes. Fitting hundreds of different lens materials we are more likely than most to find a material suitable for drier eyes.
If you do produce less tears or your eyes simply get sore and gritty from time to time, even with the best Contacts for you then we will advise on remedial therapies. Dry eyes are problematic for Contact Lens wearers and non-wearers alike.
Our primary recommendation for in eye wetting drops is ....
HYABAK --- these eye drops really do work for the vast majority.
The main advantage of HYABAK is that, unlike many drops they contain no nasty preservatives which themselves can cause irritation especially if are absorbed into the Contact Lens material.
HYABAK can also be extremely effective if a single drop is applied to the inside of each soft lens before insertion.

Another product we strongly recommended for dry eyes which can be used by itself, or in conjunction with HYABAK is EYE LOGIC. This is simply sprayed onto the CLOSED EYELIDS - ladies don't worry - it doesn't ruin make-up.
This stimulates the secretion of a more lipids (fats) to help protect the watery layer of tears from drying up.

If you find insufficient effect from HYABAK & EYE LOGIC either singularly or combined then we will discuss with you the many other possible options. For many shortsighted people who are excessively dry eyed the use of Ortho-K Lenses often proves highly satisfactory.
BLEPHARITIS
LID HYGIENE is an area which has recently been studied more carefully and we've discovered that attention to lid hygiene can result in much comfier eyes for both Contact and non Contact Lens wearers. BLEPHARITIS is an inflammation of the lid margins (meibomian gland dysfunction).
In serious cases of BLEPHARITIS patients experience discharge around the lid margins with flaky deposits causing much discomfort - we now recognise that many people's lids can have low grade problems which can reduce eye comfort and also that of Contact Lenses.
BLEPHASOL & BLEPHACLEAN WIPES are 2 products specifically designed to maintain lid hygiene in a soothing comfortable way.
We now advise all our make-up wearing patients to use BLEPHACLEAN WIPES as their make-up remover - many patients say how much better they are than their previous products.

For patients who experience chronic continuing lid problems wet hot compresses have always been advocated by Ophthalmologists - developed by an Eye Doctor we now routinely recommend patients to use the much more user friendly 'EYE BAG'.
EYE BAG is an ergonomically shaped facemask, clean and simple to use. Filled with flax seeds, without lavender or other scents, it is heated in a microwave and because it can be used time after time it is very economical.
There are many other conditions which can affect the outer eye. Remember if you experience any unusual eye problems whatsoever you must leave your lenses out until you can consult us or your GP - for this reason you should always have a decent pair of glasses to fall back upon in emergencies.
